Admission Requirements

  • Admission to Honours courses requires qualifications equivalent to an Australian bachelor’s degree.
  • Applicants must achieve the required grade in qualifying studies, meet prerequisite subjects, and satisfy English language requirements.
  • Candidates must have qualified for admission to the Bachelor of Marine and Antarctic Science or an equivalent qualification.
  • A credit average in the last three semesters of undergraduate studies is typically expected.
  • Candidature is subject to supervision availability and approval of a thesis topic by IMAS.

For international students, the course fee is $41,950 AUD. Domestic students may be eligible for a Commonwealth Supported Place, with fees subsidized by the Australian Government. Only the student contribution amount for each unit within the course is applicable.

This course leads to career opportunities in marine and Antarctic science and policy including disciplines such as: oceanography, climate modelling, meteorology, marine chemistry, marine geology and marine and Antarctic biology and ecology.

The research training provided in the course may lead to positions in government and state research laboratories such as CSIRO Marine and Atmospheric Research, the Australian Antarctic Division, the Australian Bureau of Meteorology, or management agencies such as CCAMLR.

The course provides training in research, to prepare candidates for further research study, in MSc and PhD programs, including the joint UTAS-CMAR QMS PhD program and the joint UTAS-AAD QAS PhD program.
