About this Study Course

Embark on a captivating exploration of the cosmos with our Master’s Degree Programme in Exact Sciences: Astronomy and Space Physics. This specialized track spans a wide spectrum, delving into the physics of celestial bodies within our solar system, astrophysics of enigmatic entities like black holes and neutron stars, various astrophysical transients, as well as the fascinating realms of galactic structure and evolution, and cosmology.

Overview

The Astronomy and Space Physics track is a cosmic journey that blends theoretical foundations with hands-on observational studies. From unraveling the mysteries of supernovae to studying accreting black holes, this program provides a robust grounding in both theoretical and observational aspects. Our space physics group engages in cutting-edge experimental, theoretical, and computational research, focusing on high-energy phenomena in near-Earth space.

Admission Requirements

  • you have a nationally recognized first cycle degree – normally a Bachelor’s degree – from an accredited institution of higher education,
  • your degree corresponds to at least 180 ECTS (European credits) or to three years of full-time study,
  • IELTS 5 and the writing test score 6.0
  • TOEFL iBT 90 and the writing test score 20
  • Cambridge English Qualifications with pass grade A, B or C.
  • Cambridge English Qualifications with pass grade A, B or C.
  • PTE – Academic test with a minimum overall score of 62 and the writing test score 54

The structure of the programme is modular and each specialisation track has three obligatory modules that contain the core material of the field. These include the MSc thesis (30 ECTS), lecture and exercise courses, seminars, laboratory work, internship or project work, details of which depend on the specialisation. In addition, there is one thematic module that may be chosen to support your own study plan. The fourth module consists of freely chosen courses and an obligatory Finnish language and culture course (5 ECTS).

Free for citizens of EU/EEA countries or Switzerland, for citizens of non-EU/EEA countries €12,000/academic year

Future Career Outcomes
