About this Study Course

In the fast-paced landscape of the 21st century, urban areas stand at the forefront of unprecedented challenges. From the looming specter of flood risk and coastal erosion to the inexorable rise of sea levels, cities worldwide are grappling with the urgent need for resilience and renewal. The Master of Urban Resilience and Renewal (MURR) program steps boldly into this arena, offering a unique and forward-thinking approach to address these pressing issues.

Unlike traditional postgraduate degrees that may focus solely on local planning legislation, MURR stands apart as a beacon of innovation. It is the only program of its kind dedicated specifically to empowering communities in their response to the multifaceted challenges confronting modern cities. Through a dynamic curriculum that blends theory with hands-on experience, students embark on a transformative journey to become agents of positive change in urban environments.

Overview

The Master of Urban Resilience and Renewal (MURR) program is not just an academic pursuit; it’s a call to action. Centered around the urban renewal of Ōtautahi Christchurch, a city still recovering from the seismic upheavals of 2010/11, MURR offers a holistic approach to understanding and addressing urban challenges. From revitalizing infrastructure to fostering community resilience, students delve deep into the intricate fabric of urban life, guided by experienced mentors and industry experts.

At the heart of the program lies a commitment to community engagement. Through collaborative projects with local government and grassroots organizations, students don’t just learn about urban renewal—they actively participate in it. By immersing themselves in real-world scenarios, they gain invaluable insights into the complexities of modern urban environments while forging meaningful connections that extend beyond the classroom.
