Overview

Waikato’s Master of Professional Accounting (MPAcct) is tailor-made for university graduates transitioning into the field of accounting. Regardless of your previous academic background, this program equips you with globally accredited qualifications, setting the stage for a successful career in accounting and business leadership.

Whether you opt for the 180-point MPAcct program (12 months) or the 240-point MPAcct with a Chartered Accountancy (CA) endorsement (21-23 months), you are on a trajectory toward success. With intakes available in January or November, the MPAcct program promises an intensive yet rewarding academic experience. Delve into advanced knowledge and skills encompassing core areas such as accounting, business, law, economics, and finance, and apply them to practical accounting situations.

Admission Requirements

  • Have a bachelor’s degree in any subject area
  • Have achieved at least a B-minus grade average in your final year of study
  • an Academic IELTS Overall score of at least 6.5 (with no less than 6.0 in any band), or
  • a TOEFL iBT (Internet Based TOEFL) score of 90 with a Writing score of 21, or
  • a TOEFL iBT Home Edition overall score of 90 with a Writing score of 21, or
  • a B grade or better at Level 8 in the Certificate of Attainment in Academic English, or
  • a PTE Academic overall score of 56 with no band less than 46, or
  • a Language Cert International ESOL (LRWS) C1 Expert with an overall high pass and no less than a pass in each skill, or
  • a Language Cert International ESOL (LRWS) B2 Communicator with 38-50 score per skill, or
  • awarded a New Zealand Certificate in English Language (Academic) (Level 5), or
  • a Trinity College London Integrated Skills in English (ISE) III with a pass in all four components, or
  • a B2 First (formally known as Cambridge English: First (FCE)) with an overall score of 176 and no bands below 169, or
  • a C2 Proficiency (formally known as Cambridge English: Proficiency (CPE)) with an overall score of 176 and no bands below 169, or
  • a Michigan English Test (formally known as Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB)) minimum score of 59.

Each paper in the 180-point Master of Professional Accounting (yellow boxes) is worth 15pts. Students will study full-time for 12 months.

Students who are enrolled in the 240-point MPAcct – CA Program wlll then study part-time for an additional nine months and take the CA Professional Modules (red boxes). Each module is worth 7.5pts.
