For admission into the Master’s program, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- A bachelor’s degree with honors from Wits or another university with a 65% total mark aggregate.
- Attainment of at least 65% in Honors degree courses, preferably in Demography & Population Studies.
- Demographic transition theory
- Population change and the role of family planning and mortality
- key issues in mortality and migration.

- Principles and practice of data management
- Basic and advanced social statistical methods
