Explore the vibrant landscape of education, infused with current trends and future possibilities, presented in an engaging and impactful narrative.

Overview

The BEd program not only equips you to teach in any South African school but also facilitates registration with the South African Council of Educators (SACE). At Wits, a BEd opens doors to a world of career options, whether in teaching or venturing into educational research. Tailor your educational journey by choosing from three specialized BEd degrees: Foundation Phase Teaching (Grades R-3), Intermediate Phase Teaching (Grades 4-7), or Senior Phase and Further Education and Training Teaching (Grades 8-12).

While certain courses are mandatory for all BEd students, our flexible curriculum allows you to select courses that align with your passion, preparing you to teach specific phases and subjects effectively. Immerse yourself in regular practical teaching experiences throughout your studies, ensuring hands-on learning and skill development.

Foundation Phase teachers play a pivotal role in fostering a strong educational foundation and a love for learning. From teaching literacy and numeracy skills to guiding children through interdisciplinary explorations in ‘Life Skills,’ our program nurtures educators who inspire and shape the future.
