UNISA’s commitment to academic and professional development is reflected in the incorporation of both semester and year modules. Ensure to register year modules during the January registration period of each academic year. Moreover, from the first year of BEd registration, students are required to register with SACE (South African Council for Educators), enhancing their professional standing. The transition from the non-aligned BEd to aligned BEd comes with approved transitional arrangements unique to this degree and stream. Note that these arrangements are not transferable to any other qualification or stream. It is vital for students to register the relevant Teaching Methodology concurrently with the applicable Teaching Practice module at each registration stage. UNISA retains the right to cancel any teaching practice module not registered concurrently with the relevant teaching methodology.

As part of this progressive program, some pre-requisites and/or co-requisites outlined in the qualification may not apply, as they do not form part of the curriculum. Additionally, SPE1507 has been replaced by NSO1507, with students who have passed the SPE modules exempt from the NSO modules.

Admission Requirements

A National Senior Certificate (NSC) (Degree endorsement) with at least 50% in the language of teaching and learning and at least 50% in Mathematics,
or
a Senior Certificate (SC) with matriculation exemption or qualify for the exemption from the Matriculation Board with at least a D symbol on HG or a C symbol on SG in the language of teaching and learning and at least E Mathematics (HG) or D Mathematics (SG),
or
a National Certificate Vocational (NCV) level 4 with at least 60% in three fundamental subjects including the language of teaching and learning; 70% in four vocational subjects chosen from the NCV level 4 subjects. Subjects under the following categories are approved as eligible for a BEd degree: All official languages at First Additional Language level, Agriculture and Nature Conservation, Business, Commerce and Management Sciences Services, Education, Training and Development.

Applicants who do not comply with the above requirements should consider applying for a Higher Certificate in Education if they meet the statutory and additional requirements. The module MTE1501 must be successfully completed in the Higher Certificate
