Overview
The Natural Computation MRes is an interdisciplinary program that explores computational systems inspired by natural processes. Engage with topics such as evolutionary algorithms, co-evolution, evolutionary design, nature-inspired optimization techniques, evolutionary games, novel learning algorithms, artificial neural networks, and the theory of natural computation. This master’s degree by research combines taught core principles with hands-on research projects, fostering your development as a scientific researcher. You’ll learn to plan, organize, and manage your time effectively, contribute to new knowledge, and develop intellectual skills such as argumentation, exposition, and reasoning. Admission Requirements
- A 2:1 Honours degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or another science or engineering subject with a significant computing component.
- Applicants must submit a statement of research interests and tentative project ideas (two sides of A4) that align with the research interests of the School.
- Non-standard qualifications are welcome; applicants should contact the admissions tutor.
- International Students: A range of qualifications from different countries are accepted.
- English Language Requirements:
- IELTS 6.0 with no less than 5.5 in any band
- TOEFL: 80 overall with no less than 19 in Reading, 19 in Listening, 21 in Speaking, and 19 in Writing
- Pearson Test of English (PTE): Academic 64 with no less than 59 in all four skills
- Cambridge English: Advanced – minimum overall score of 169, with no less than 162 in any component
- International students must obtain an Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS) certificate.
