Overview
The MRes History program is designed for those eager to deepen their understanding of historical research across a range of specialized areas. Our curriculum reflects the department’s strengths, including Medieval and Early Modern History, Global History, and Modern and Contemporary History. This program equips you with advanced research techniques, enabling you to craft a significant piece of independent research that showcases your expertise. Through rigorous training and hands-on experience, you will develop a nuanced understanding of historical scholarship and learn to critically assess contemporary research. This program offers a blend of in-depth subject knowledge and practical research skills, setting you up for success in the field of history.
Admission Requirements
- A relevant undergraduate degree, typically with a substantial component in history, international relations, or politics
- For international applicants, an honours degree in a related subject, usually at an upper second class level or equivalent
- Mature students are encouraged to apply and are considered on a case-by-case basis
- English language requirements: IELTS 6.5 (with no less than 6.0 in any band), TOEFL 88, Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic 67, or Cambridge English Advanced with a minimum score of 176. If these requirements are not met, applicants can enrol in an English for Academic Purposes Presessional Course.
