Overview
The School of Biosciences is at the forefront of multi- and interdisciplinary research, structured around four interlinked groupings. These themes span human, animal, plant, microbial, cell, and molecular biology, seamlessly integrating with systems and structural biology. As a PhD student, you’ll engage in collaborative research projects that bridge these diverse areas, fostering innovation and discovery.
You will have the opportunity to work with esteemed supervisors, who you can contact directly to discuss available projects. As a member of the Biosciences Graduate Research School, you’ll receive comprehensive training in both generic and transferable skills, alongside specialized techniques pertinent to your research discipline. Our program places a strong emphasis on research training, offering regular progress monitoring, induction programs, and short courses in core and specialized techniques, ensuring you are well-prepared for your research journey.
Admission Requirements
- At least a 2:1 Honours degree or equivalent, or a postgraduate Master’s in a relevant subject
- For international students:
- Standard English language requirements (IELTS: 6.0 overall with no less than 5.5 in any band)
- TOEFL: 80 overall with no less than 19 in Reading, 19 in Listening, 21 in Speaking, and 19 in Writing
- Pearson Test of English (PTE): Academic 64 with no less than 59 in all four skills
- Cambridge English (post-2015 exams): Advanced, minimum overall score of 169 with no less than 162 in any component
