The University of Dubai, established in 1997 by the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI), aimed to address skills and qualification gaps in the workforce and to support the government's human resources development programs in both the private and public sectors. Initially known as Dubai Polytechnic College, the university offered programs such as Graphic Design and Visual Communication in its early years. The institution underwent a significant transformation in 2001, then known as Dubai University College, when the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research accredited its Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) and Bachelor of Science (BS) in Computing and Information Systems degree programs. This accreditation marked a turning point in the university's history. In June 2006, a major milestone was reached when Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and the Ruler of Dubai, approved the name change from Dubai University College to the University of Dubai.In terms of notable features, the University of Dubai joined the United Nations Principles of Responsible Management Education (PRME) initiative in 2008, becoming the first signatory from the Middle East region. This commitment was further recognized in 2013 when the university was nominated as a member of the PRME Champions Group. That same year, the University of Dubai hosted the 3rd PRME MENA regional conference at the Dubai Chamber premises on November 10 and 11. The University of Dubai continues to be sponsored by the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry, highlighting its ongoing relationship and support.The University of Dubai's main campus is centrally located in downtown Dubai, with additional classes held at the Dubai Chamber in Deira. A significant development in the university's infrastructure came in June 2006, when His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum granted the university 3,000,000 square feet (approximately 280,000 square meters) of land in Academic City for the construction of a new campus. This expansion project was divided into two phases, designed to accommodate a total of 8,000 students, with each phase catering to 4,000 students. The new campus project involves constructing nine buildings over an area of 273,387 square meters along the Dubai-Al Ain road.Currently, the University of Dubai serves a student body of around 1,400 students and is supported by a faculty of 300 members. The expansion plans are set to significantly increase the university's capacity and enhance its facilities to better serve the growing educational needs of its community.
